Discover the joy of drawing—even if you’ve never picked up a pencil for more than a doodle. This relaxed, hands-on class introduces the core skills that every artist builds on: seeing like an artist, translating what you see to the page, and developing confident lines and values. By the end of the course, you’ll have a sketchbook full of studies, a finished still-life drawing, and the confidence to keep exploring on your own.
What You’ll Learn:
• How to “see” shapes, angles, and negative space
• Basic line techniques: contour, gesture, and cross-contour
• Intro to perspective: 1-point & 2-point setups for simple objects
• Light, shadow, and shading with graphite
• Composition essentials: balance, focal point, and thumbnail sketches
• Simple ways to keep a daily sketch habit
Class Format:
• 6 weekly sessions, 2 hours each (in-studio)
• Short demos followed by plenty of guided practice
• Individual feedback and group critiques in a supportive atmosphere

• 9"×12" sketchbook (smooth drawing paper)
• Graphite pencils, kneaded eraser, vinyl eraser
• Blending stumps
• Ruler and pencil extender

About Your Instructor:
Theresa has a BFA and more than 10 years of teaching experience in both 2D and 3D classes. She believes in developing strong fundamentals in a relaxed and welcoming studio environment. Expect plenty of encouragement, clear explanations, and practical tips you can use right away.
